Today was quite a long day. I begun working at 10am and I have almost finished the tasks i set out to do today inorder to move myself forward and closer to the launching date of GIRL GREATNESS. After searching the web a few days ago for information that I am going to use for the project I finally managed to gather and structure the infomation in a hand out form.
1.TASK ONE (IDENTIFY TEN YOUNG INFLUENTIAL AFRICAN WOMEN)
The biographies of these women are going to be used as case studies for the GIRL Aspire program. The girls will study and evaluate these womens profiles and discussions will be held to find out why these women are successful, what the girls think motivates these women. We will also evaluate how these women dealt with the challenges they faced and identify why they are considered influential and an inspiration to society.
The women I have chosen are:- 1.Isha Sesay (Journalist of Sierra leonean descent)
2.Mame Ramatoulaye Yade (French politian from Senegal)
3.Ayaan Hirsi Ali (Somali feminist)
4.Dr. Dambisa Moyo (Economist from Zambia)
5.Tumi Makagabo (Former CNN anchor from South Africa)
6.Pamela Jelimo (Keyan Athlete)
7.Femi Oke (Former CNN weather anchor from Nigeria)
8.June Sarpong MBE (English television presenter of ghanaian descent)
9.Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Nigerian Writer)
10.Thembi Thadzi (Student and former chair person of the national youth council of malawi)
Most of the personalities I got from a blog that rated most of them as africa's most influential women and ofcourse I had to put our own young personality i.e. Thembi Thadzi.
Apart from finding the personalities I also came up with the handouts on summary writing, note-making, debate conduction and preparation, research conduction and how to write book reports. I am soon to do the speech and presentation handouts and make the GIRL GREATNESS profile fill-in's for the girls. I will post the handouts for you all and once the project starts i will also post the girls' profiles.
That's the progress I made today.
I'll keep you posted as I go along.

WOw, so great it is, I'll spend some time to read more about the profiles of those influencial personalities you ve choosen. I commend you for including one local achiever on that list. Since you're mainly dealing with Malawian girls (I guess), Thembi would be an ideal model; 'Success isn't exclusive to internationals; it's possible for Malawian women to excel in life'This is the msg i get from inclusion of Thembi.
ReplyDeleteyes that was exactly what i was trying to put across, she's young and she has been a leader in a known organisation and i consider that an achievement worth making her a role model that the girls can study.
