The missing lucky charm bracelet by Mirriam Njobvu

One day, Bridget was walking down the beach. After tanning herself for half an hour, she got up and returned to her small cottage for a rest. After a few good minutes of walking, she met a girl who was about six or seven who was playing with a bracelet.

She recognized the bracelet, she then looked down at her wrist and realized that her bracelet was gone. She wondered at what time the bracelet had slipped off her hand and found its way into this little’s girl tiny hands.

The bracelet clasped in the girl’s hands was actually the lucky charm bracelet that her mother had given her for her eighteenth birthday. She bent over and tried to coax the little girl into giving the bracelet back but the girl refused.

Bridget pondered over the situation for a few seconds and then an idea came to her. She would just have to distract the little girl and then retrieve the bracelet when the little girl least expected it.

“What is your name little?” she asked her gently.
“Naomi” she responded in her tiny voice.
“Do you like ice cream?”

The little girl nodded enthusiastically. Bridget smiled a generous smile before she took the little girl by the hand and led her to the ice cream stand in the distance. Bridget bought the ice cream and they ate it cheerfully, after they were done Bridget tried to get the bracelet back but the little girl was adamant.

Just then a woman walked up to them an introduced herself as Naomi’s mother. Bridget explained her dilemma to the woman who then tried to get the bracelet but to no avail. She only succeeded in making Naomi cry. Naomi’s mother then suggested that Bridget give her her address so she could bring the bracelet along later on.

Bridget handed over her contact details and left for her cottage. Later on that day she heard a knock at her front door. She rushed over and opened it. Before her stood Naomi’s mother holding the bracelet in hand.

“How did you get it” Bridget asked in delight as Naomi’s mother handed the bracelet over.
“I waited till she was asleep”
“Good thinking” Bridget said and thanked her before she left.
From that day, Bridget made sure that charm bracelet was clasped tightly around her wrist so she wouldn’t lose it again.
